The Snoubar skate park in Horsh Beirut, Lebanon was launched in August 2021, one year after the Beirut port explosion destroyed large areas of the capital. The project was made possible following a fundraising campaign by grassroots skateboarding collective Make Life Skate Life. The skate park is very popular with young people, who have few places to go in a city lacking public space, with only 0.8 square metres per capita, (the World Health Organisation recommends a minimum of nine). The park is located in an area often associated with sectarian divides, between the former East and West Beirut, but now provides a haven where all are welcome to enjoy the park or just hang out.
